Interview with Tommy from SupplementReviews.com

To start the Income Dude blog I thought I would do a few interviews with some of the people I know and appreciate a lot.

Tommy is one of them. He started out with internet entrepreneurship pretty early, is a power seller at Flippa after some very interesting old site buying strategies.

His main focus and fair to say biggest success so far is Supplement Reviews. The site which started in 2006 (from memory) can be summed by its tagline (as of today, the 21st of May 2012) - 7,197 Supplements, 21,409 Reviews & 28,906 Users.

Basically, Tommy built an incredible community which creates excellent unbiased content. Users flock to his site to use it repeatedly.

It may not be the prettiest looking site in the world at the moment, but it’s extremely functional and the users LOVE it. The traffic is very high and about half of the users are return visitors.

Not a lot of people out there talk about how to build a community online, so I thought it would be VERY interesting to chat with Tommy and ask him those kinds of questions.

In this interview we talk about:
* How Supplement Reviews started and promoted initially

* The features that make Supplement Reviews successful and lead to it being so high quality

* How people are rewarded for writing content for the site (hint: it doesn’t cost a cent, and it’s extremely addictive and causes people to return to the site, engage and contribute over and over).

* How to maintain a high quality of content on a review site and avoid the obvious spammers who are trying to promote their own products

You’ll also get to hear how Tommy thinks about internet business – and it’s far from the pump & dump kind of “grab a niche with a lot of traffic and good money opportunities and build a site that ranks for it”. Tommy specifically tries very hard to create a community that gives value and allows it’s users to enjoy it.

Let me know how you found it. It’s my first interview, so I sometimes take to long to structure a question, and my Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) gets me asking questions as I think about them even if they’re unrelated. But overall, the content is extremely valuable to anyone wanting to build a quality community site online.
